North Ayrshire Labour are committed to delivering real change on housing.

We are building more than 1000 new council homes over the next few years with a total investment from the Council of £170million.

Alongside our Registered Social Landlords, around 1732 new social houses built over the next five years with developments in every locality in North Ayrshire.

If the scale of our house building programme here in North Ayrshire was replicated across Scotland then more than 60,000 new social houses would be built – almost double the current national target.

“This is probably the most exciting and ambitious house-building programme by any authority in Scotland." Jim Montgomerie - Cabinet Member for Place

Irvine
Irvine's high rise flats

North Ayrshire Labour set out ambitious plans to demolish and replace the area’s high rise flats – and gave the decision over their future to the residents themselves.

Having agreed plans to install fire sprinklers in high rise flats in Irvine and Saltcoats the Council explored the additional costs of demolishing the blocks and replacing the stock with new, high-quality council houses. We put the two options to residents through a consultation and in Irvine the majority choose demolish and replace but in Saltcoats residents voted to remain.

By 2021, Irvine’s high rise flats will be demolished and will be replaced by 275 new council houses. Saltcoats will be upgraded.
