North Ayrshire Labour are leading the way across the UK on tackling period poverty.

In August 2017 North Ayrshire Council became the first local authority in the UK to offer free sanitary products in all our secondary schools. In the first year 13,000 products were used by school pupils.

Exactly a year later we went even further – making free sanitary products available in all our public buildings including libraries, community centres and council buildings.

North Ayrshire in the News

Monica Lennon

We haven’t fought this fight alone. Period Poverty got onto the political agenda thanks to the campaigning of Scottish Labour MSP Monica Lennon.

Monica’s campaign highlighted the stories of women and girls living in Scotland using items such as newspapers and socks because they couldn’t afford proper sanitary protection.

We are proud to support Monica’s bill to end period poverty in Scotland.

Period Dignity

We are also proud to be supporting Unite the Union’s Period Dignity campaign which calls on the provision of sanitary products to become normal across workplaces and society.

Unite came to North Ayrshire to produce a video in support of their campaign.
